THE unit-7 of Mumbai police Crime Branch on Thursday have arrested Vijay Mahadik alias Raju a member of Chhota Rajan gang. The police have seized a foreign made pistol and four live cartridges from his possession.

According to press note issued by crime branch officials, 32-year-old Mahadik was arrested from Mulund, a suburban Mumbai. He was wanted in many cases in Mumbai and Thane district. The Kherwadi police have invoked Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA).

Officials had received information that Mahadik would be meeting his aide at a bus stop near Airoli toll naka on Eastern Express Highway. Apart from a foreign made pistol and four live cartridges, two cell phones were seized from his possessions, the police said.

Mahadik had started his underworld career right from the year 2005 and worked with many Rajan men including J Dey murder case prime accused Satish Kalya. He was arrested in the year 2008 in a firing case. He was also involved in the last year’s Arms Act case, wherein his aide Sanjay Chaudhary was arrested with a Bhagwad Geeta, in which two country-made revolvers and eleven live rounds were concealed. Mahadik was also wanted on firing case on Shiv Sena activist Rajesh Ghadge in 2012 at Kopri, Thane.

The local has remanded him in police custody till June 18.
