IN a joint operation, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials from Delhi and Mumbai arrested drug mafia Baba Dawade from Kalyan, last night.
According to sources, on a reliable tip, Delhi and Mumbai DRI officials raided a flat Shelar Park building, Khadakpada, Kalyan (west). He rented the flat on occasion of Gudi Padwa on a relative’s name. Dawade was staying here with his family.
During interrogation, Dawade confessed that he runs drugs factory at Solapur, Maharashtra. Constable Dharamraj Kalokhe, attached with Mumbai’s Marine Drive Police station and Konduskar Travels owners were his permanent customer s. They (Kalokhe and Konduskar) purchased drugs from Dawade.
He has also confessed that he has purchased 140 acres land recently in Maharashtra on name of his relatives (Foofa). This relative lives near Birla College in Kalyan (west). He has paid Rs 70 lakhs to the seller. He is much close to a strong politician in Maharashtra.
He told DRI officials that he has hidden 40 kgs of drugs behind the factory.
He was absconding from the spot last month in Delhi when DRI officials seized biggest 500 kg of suspected Mephedrone, estimated to be worth Rs 30 crore. Two people, including the driver of the truck were arrested into the matter.
The truck belongs from Kurutuwadi in Maharashtra’s Solapur district where the drugs had been manufactured in his factory. Dawade was the owner of the factory. The seized Mephedrone was hidden under a tarpaulin used for covering the truck in 13 sacks. Interestingly, the truck was stated to be carrying papayas.
Mephedrone is a psychotropic stimulant of the amphetamine class, which gets its street name Meow Meow, from its chemical name 4-methylmethcathinone, or M-CAT.
