A 29-year-old diploma holder in Mechanics has been arrested by the Azad Maidan police in South Korean robbery case. The accused claims he is tourist guide also. Police have recovered foreign currencies worth Rs 30,000 from his possession.

ABI has reported on May 5 under headline that “South Korean citizen robbed in CST subway.”

On May 5, three accused had robbed South Korean national Choug Mul Ghe in Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) subway.

58-year-old Ghe have a garment business in Tamilnadu. He visited Marine Drive and attended an exhibition in Fort before coming to CST. On May 5 around 3.30pm a robber (beggar) stopped Ghe at entrance of the CST sub-way adjoining BMC headquarters. The accused started begging money from the Ghe. Later two more accused came there and started demanding (begging) money. Very soon two accused grabbed his hands and legs. The third one snatched the wallet from his pocket and ran away.

The Azad Maidan police had registered FIR of robbery of Rs 5.7 lakhs against three unknown accused.

During investigation police nabbed one accused Rupesh Mahendra Merchandeas near Bandra railway station, while he was trying to board train for Ajmer Sharif.

The accused is a diploma holder in Mechanics but was unemployed past many years. He is a resident of Sahar Gaon, Andheri (east) but was living at CST footpath with anti-social ailments.

“We are on the lookout for two another accused in the case,” said a police officer from Azad Maidan police station.
