THE Maharashtra Government had invalidated 33, 252 caste certificate since 1995. But failed to take action against those who had got benefits on the strength of such certificate.

D D Mayee, Joint Commissioner and Vice Chairman, Scheduled Tribe Certificate Caste Scrutiny Committee, Pune on Monday told Bombay High Court that Maharashtra Government had rejected 33,253 caste cerficates since 1995.

An NGO Adivasi Samaj Kruti Samiti, have filed the PIL in to the Bombay High Court. Uday Warunjkar lawyer of the NGO asked what action had been taken against these applicants who had got benefits on the basis of such caste certificates. He further asked that whether FIR had been lodged against them as provided in section 10 of Maharashtra Caste Certificate Act.

Remained unanswered the government pleader said he would have to seek instructions from the authorities to answer the query.

The justice Abhay Oka seen unhappy with the affidavit filed by government because it had not dealt with the issues raised in the PIL which alleged huge number of pending cases before the various caste scrutiny committees in the State.

The court asked the State to file a fresh affidavit and posted the matter for further hearing on August 13.
