Imtiyaz Shaikh, a Police Inspector (PI) of Parksite police station in Vikhroli is an accused for ‘molesting’ a female complainant. To add up to the complainants grievances he also pressurised her to remove father-in-law’s name from the complaint.

On March 3, 2014 Kavita Deshmukh (name changed to protect identity) met the newly appointed Commissioner of Police, Rakesh Maria to complaining against Shaikh. According the complaint, Kavita is a resident of Shashtri Nagar, Kanjurmarg (East). She met Shaikh complaining against her husband Sunil and father-in-law Shashikant who had beaten her badly. Instead of taking action on accused Shaikh asked Kavita to remove her clothes and show him her injuries and then also to discard the father-in-law’s name from the complaint. (Copy of complaint is available with ABI).

“Shaikh asked me to first show injuries removing cloth. I refused to do so because there was no woman constable. Shaikh refused to take action on my husband and father-in-law,” said Kavita. She added, “Shaikh also forced me to remove my father-in-law’s name as he works as in a government organisation”.

On February 14, 2014 Kavita had registered FIR against her husband Sunil, father-in-law Shashikant, mother-in-law Ratan and brother-in-law Swapnil under sections 498 (A) (Husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty) , 323(voluntarily causing ), 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 508 (Act caused by inducing person to believe that he will be rendered an object of Divine displeasure) and 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of IPC in Kanjurmarg police station. The case was later transferred to Parksite police station. Since then Kavita is running from pillar to post demanding action against her in-laws and justice for herself to which the police have seemed to turn deaf ears.

“I visited Kanjurmarg and Vikroli police station more than 20 times. Instead of taking action on the accused, the police officials are insulting me,” said Kavita.

There have been several instances when Kavita was forced to sit in the police station late night by Shaikh. Fed up of Shaikh’s attitude she had to take resort to the Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria who assured her that strict action will be taken against Shaikh and her in-laws will be arrested. On Maria’s instructions Ramdas Gaikwad, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) recorded her statement but it all went in vain. Suresh Sakpal. Senior Inspector of Parksite police station also just gave her assurance but did nothing to solve the matter.

“I believe my in-laws have bribed to Parksite police station,” said Kavita.

Officials Speak

ACP Ramdas Gaikwad when contacted to speak on this case said; “I am busy, Come and meet me tomorrow, then I will speak.”

“Allegations are false. Our all officers sit in open space. We cannot ask her to show injury. Matter was transferred from Kanjurmarg to our police station.  We will arrest accused soon,” said Shaikh.

Senior Inspector Sakpal was not available for comments after repeated attempts.
