FORMER Maharashtra Home Minister and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader R R Patil again stoked a controversy. While addressing a rally ahead of Assembly Elections in Maharashtra, Patil said that if Maharashtra Navnirman Sena’s (MNS) candidate Sudhakar Khade, who was arrested on rape charges in 2007, wanted to be a MLA, then he could have rape after the elections.

Sudhakar Khade is contesting election from Kawathe-Ekand, in Sangli district.

According to R R Patil, Khade a MNS candidate has criminal background. He is history sheeter. He was previously in Shiv Sena. Khade was first accused of rape in 2007. In 2011, he was charged in another rape and molestation case.

A controversial leader R R told NCP workers that Khade’s supporters came to him. They lend their support. Patil asked them why they were doing so. They said their candidate was in the prison in a rape case. On that Patil commented that If “he (Khade) should have committed rape at least after elections.

Patil’s comments sparked a major controversy with rivals.

Earlier Patil has lost his Home Minister seat. Patil was accused of downplaying the severity of attacks saying, “In big cities like this (26/11 terror attack), small things do happen.
