The BMC officials and Election Commission (EC) is not willing to take any action against the BJP candidate from North- Central Mumbai, Poonam Mahajan. Poonam Mahajan allegedly  have violated the EC norms after opening an party office in the vicinity of a Dargah, Masjid, Mandir and School. Rahul Kanal, the vice-president of Congress party form North- Central Mumbai complained against Mahajan stating that she violated the BMC and EC norms by opening an office near Dargah, Masjid, Mandir and School.

Poonam Mahajan, the daughter of slain BJP leader, Pramod Mahajan has inaugurated her central election office at Vakola. As per election commission rules candidate can open his/her party office 200 meters away from Dargah, Masjid, Mandir and School. The election department sent circular to BMC in this regards. Surprisingly Mahajan’s office falls very close to Dargah, Masjid, Mandir and School. Before giving permission for the office premises the BMC officials should have made a visit to the spot but in Mahajan’s case the BMC seems to have turned blind.

“Three days have passed since my complaint but no BMC/ EC official has showed interest in taking action against Mahajan in the matter,” said Kanal.

After repeated attempts the BMC H/East ward officer was not available for comment on the matter. But Poonam Mahajan on the case said, “The complaint was made three days ago and the matter is solved”.

Mahajan was involved in another controversy last week when she declared her assets worth Rs. 108 Crores making her the richest candidate of the city. Politicians from several other parties expressed surprise at the huge amount of assets possessed by Mahajan.
