BOLLYWOOD actress Priyanka Chopra’s former personal assistant (PA), Arvind Upadhyay, has “again” been arrested in a cheating case. Earlier he was arrested by the L T Marg police in a case for cheating by using same modus-operandi. Also prior to that he was arrested for stealing Priyanka Chopra’s costly wrist watch.

On November 27, 2014 Azad Maidan police arrested him under sections 420 and 34 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) on a complaint of Manoj Pathak. On Monday he was produced in 37th, Metropolitan Court, where he was further remanded in police custody till December 3, 2014. Upadhayay’s wife Santoshi Upadhayay is also an accused in the matter and reported to be absconding.
Confirming this Manoj Pathak’s advocate Anand Upadhyay said, “Arvind Upadhyay has been arrested by Azad Maidan police and still he is police custody.”
On November 28, 2007 Samta Nagar police in Kandivali arrested Upadhyay on the complaint of Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra. Upadhyay was then her personal assistant.
Chopra was shooting for one of her films ‘Chamku’ at Thakur College in Kandivili. Chopra had kept her Tag Heuer watch (worth of Rs 1, 00,000) and other personal belongings in her vanity van infront of other staffs Rajesh Patil , Kishore Bhandare, Meenal Sharma, Praveena Marolia, Shefali Dave and Sheetal Wake. She had told Upadhyay to take care of it while she was shooting.
A little later Upadhyay went on shooting spot and informed Chopra that the watch was missing.
Chopra returned to her van. She checked and couldn’t find her expensive watch. She suspected Upadhyay. On November 28, 2007 she registered FIR (copy available with ABI) under section 379 of IPC in Samata Nagar police station. During the investigation Upadhyay admitted that he had indeed taken her watch. Police arrested Upadhyay for theft.
On August 22, 2014 the L T Marg police arrested Upadhyay under sections 406, 420 and 34 of the IPC for cheating to several people on complaint of BK Pathak. His wife Santoshi Upadhyay is also accused in the matter. She is absconding.
According to police Upadhyay (36), a resident of Akash Nidhi apartment, Ramdev park road, Mira Road, Thane district was earlier arrested by Samata Nagar police in Kandivali for stealing Priyanka Chopra’s Tag Heuer watch. After the incident Priyanka Chopra booted him out from the job.
Later, in February 2013 Upadhyay and his wife floated a multi-solution company by the name ‘Santoshi Associates’ having office at Tanmay building, Hetal Park, Mira Road (east).
Upadhyay told people that he has purchased a plot (amounting Rs. 2 crore) at Ghodbunder road in Thane distrct. Showing the plot’s paper he offered that if anyone invested money in his scheme he will return the amount with 50 percent profit within a month. As he was Priyanka Chopra’s former personal assistant, trusting him more than 100 people invested crore of rupees.
A month passed by but Upadhyay did not return the money as he had promised to his investors. The investors started demanding their money back. One of them was Balkishan Pathak alias B K a resident of Singhania building, Dadiseth Agyari Lane, Kalbadevi. Pathak (36) owns a business in the name of Kishan Distributors at Dhobi Talav. He has invested Rs.1, 00,000.
After repeated attempts Upadhyay issued cheques to all investors but stopped the payment every time. Fed up, on June 4, 2014, Pathak complained (copy available with ABI) to L T Marg police station. After a long investigation on August 1, 2014 police registered FIR against Upadhyay and his wife Santoshi. On August 22, 2014 police arrested him.
Samata Nagar police again arrested Upadhyay suspecting that he had stolen a mobile phone. He was released after police found out that he was not involved in crime.
