The Punjab Government on Saturday suspended Inspector General of Police (IGP) Gautam Cheema with immediate effect. Cheema is absconding after a complaint was filed of molestation by three women -Kricpy Khera, Maninder Gulati and Amarpreet Verma.

According to media reports, Mohali Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Indermohan Singh Bhatti announced about suspension of Cheema and his two accomplices.

A case has been registered against Cheema, Ajay Chowdhary and Rashmi Negi at Mataur police station.

A woman, residing in Sector 70, had alleged that Cheema along with two others had come to her house on the night of March 20 and allegedly molested her and also threatened her and her husband.

Meanwhile Mohali Police, continued searching the accused and look out notice have already been issued.

Not enough, this is the second FIR lodged by the district police against Cheema after he was booked for allegedly kidnapping a proclaimed offender (PO) recently. Earlier, a kidnapping case was registered against Cheema on the complaint of an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), after he allegedly took a proclaimed offender (PO), Sumedh Gulati, who was booked in a fraud case, from Phase 1 police station.
