The Shahu Nagar police have arrested three college students for allegedly passing lewd comments on a foreign national woman in Dharavi. Interestingly, among them two accused are minor and woman is working on a project for the cause of women and children empowerment.

According to police, the woman is a Polish national. She is working for the cause of women and children empowerment with a Mumbai based non-government organization (NGO).

On Thursday around 5.30pm she was passing Jasmine Mill road, in Shahu Nagar. The accused were standing nearby and allegedly passed lewd comments on her. Without any reaction woman approached Shahu Nagar police and registered police complaint.

A police team rushed on spot and arrested three accused. One accused identified as Abubakar Ansari (19). Two accused are minor. They have been sent to children remand home at Dongri. The accused are a college students and residents of Shahu Nagar, Matunga area.

“We have arrested accused under sections 509 (act, word or gesture intended to outrage a woman’s modesty) and 34 (common intention),” said a police officer from Shahu Nagar police station.
