A Mumbai based NGO “Yuva Hitkarini” distributed blankets to the needy, poor and homeless people residing on the streets of Mumbai.

When night temperatures dipped in the city many homeless and poor sleeping on the road side and streets, failed to protect themselves from the cold. The NGO members consisting of 10 volunteers distributed 500 blankets in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Thane cities.

“We also distributed plastic sheets (talpatri), cloths for females, grocery and footwear in various areas in Mumbai,” said Dinesh Yadav, NGO secretary.

According to NGO president Vinay Thakur, such an initiative was started 15 years back from Bhandup in suburban Mumbai. Since then it is continuing. The members are attached with different professions. Some of them are engineers, journalists, managers, businessmen, financial advisors and property consultants but they come under one umbrella during distributing the blankets, cloths, etc.
