THE Congress Party’s Youth wing leader from Kalyan area Shailesh Tiwari has unearthed a new scam in Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL). The MSEDCL officials have adopted new tactics to cheat electricity consumers.
Tiwari is a resident of Kolsewadi in Kalyan (East), Thane district. He is an active member of Congress Party of Youth wing and former president of Kalyan Loksabha Kshetra, Kalyan.
Tiwari was receiving electricity bills since several months amounting double and triple for same consumption. He was forced to pay bills because he didn’t have any option. He decided to go deep into the matter.
On July 18, 2014 a meter reader went to read meter at Tiwari’s home. Tiwari inquired about the doubling amount to meter reader but he failed to give satisfactory answer. Then Tiwari contacted to electricity expert. The expert told that MSEDCL has given contract to private company to collect electricity bills. The expert also told that there is a rule that meter reading work will be done till date 13 only per month. But meter reader visits home after 13 regularly till 18 or even later. He clicks photographs of meter on that day but their camera never shows date. On basis of that meter reading MSEDCL sends bills including access (extra) days.
“There is no question of extra days and very less amount but MSEDCL did this with all consumers of Kalyan. This is big scam,” said Tiwari.
On July 23, 2014 Tiwari along with Congress corporator Uday Rasal and his several supporters approached Kolsewadi police station in Kalyan to lodge a cheating FIR against MSEDCL officials but police refused to do so.
Later Tiwari met MSEDCL officials with his supporters. Surprisingly MSEDCL officials accepted that this is fault or scam but they said it was a small thing.
“MSEDCL officials accepted that this is a scam but a minor one. Itna to chalta hai,” said Rasal.
Tiwari suggested/warned MSEDCL officials to stop such practice or he will sit on strike till death. Shameless MSEDCL officials did not obey his request or suggestion.
Tiwari has decided to sit on hunger strike till death since August 9 near railway station tunnel, Kalyan (east). He says that the demand in the matter should be investigated by special investigation team (SIT).
“We are with Tiwari. I will also sit on strike with our supporters. Our aim is to expose to MSEDCL officials and awareness between people,” said Rasal.
