THE Crime Branch of Mumbai police on Wednesday submitted a sealed cover report of an investigation in a case alleged rape of a 28-year-old lady by a police officer to a bench of Justices V M Kanade and P D Kode in Bombay High Court. The court asked to Niranjan Hiranandani to file a reply to the allegations mentioned in the petition.

The court also asked police to submit further progress in this case after four weeks.

Famous builder Niranjan Hiranandani and police officers from Powai police station are accused into the matter. The victim had also alleged that her husband was also allegedly assaulted in Hiranandani’s office.

According to the petition, Hiranandani had been trying to grab a land occupied by a group of slum-dwellers in Jai Bhimnagar, Powai. The petitioner claimed that Hiranandani used money and muscle power to get hold of the land. She was allegedly raped and assaulted by senior inspector of Powai police station and two others to a community temple. The woman had claimed in the petition that despite her complaints, no action had been taken.

The Bombay High Court had observed during the last hearing that the allegations were serious in nature. Court transferred matter for further investigation to crime branch. Hearing her petition, the court had ordered police to register FIR and submit preliminary report within seven days.

The court had also ordered police protection to the victim till Wednesday’s hearing.
